A concealer brush is like a best friend: it’s there for you in your time of need, it knows all your secrets, and it never judges you (unless you’re using it wrong). Seriously though, a concealer brush is one of the most versatile tools in your makeup bag, and when used correctly, can work absolute magic. Here are some do’s and don’ts when it comes to using a concealer brush.

Do use a concealer brush to apply concealer under your eyes. The bristles on a concealer brush are soft and dense, making them perfect for applying product in delicate areas. Simply dip the brush into your concealer, tap off the excess, and then blend the product into your skin using small circular motions.

Don’t use a concealer brush to apply foundation all over your face. While a concealer brush can be used for spot coverage, it’s not meant for applying foundation all over your face. If you do use it for this purpose, you’ll likely end up with streaky-looking makeup. Instead, use a foundation brush or beauty blender for an even application.

Do use a concealer brush to contour your nose. By selectively placing darker shades of concealer on either side of your nose and then blending outward, you can give the illusion of a slimmer nose without resorting to surgery (or slather on bronzer).

Don’t use a concealer brush to heavily contour your face. When contouring, less is more. If you go too heavy-handed with the product, you risk looking like you have dirt smeared all over your face instead of finely sculpted cheekbones. Use a light hand and build up the product gradually until you reach your desired look.

A concealer brush is one of the most versatile tools in your makeup bag—but only if you know how to use it correctly. With its dense bristles and soft touch, a concealer brush is perfect for applying product in delicate areas such as under the eyes. It can also be used for contouring the nose or providing spot coverage. Just remember: when it comes to using a concealer brush, less is almost always more.
